ABOUT SHANE

I’m a former accountant turned SEO and online entrepreneur. In 2016, I started a D2C e-commerce shop selling bow ties via SEO and content marketing. I pivoted to affiliate marketing in 2017 launching websites in various niches such as pest control, diamonds, and fitness. I’ve personally built and sold multiple 6 and 7-figure websites out of this pivot using SEO and content marketing strategies. Currently, I’m the VP of SEO at Three Ships, a holding company that owns more than 50 review and media websites. I oversee and lead SEO, digital PR, and M&A strategy.

@Abhishek_kurve @soccerjmitch 100% agree. I would not start a content biz in 2024, but rather use a blog or SEO to power growth for a real brand with digital or physical products alongside other methods (podcast, youtube, etc). One example I like a lot is thedigitalprojectmanager(.)com.

Long Term Focus

When you're focused on a niche for as long as Derek (10+ years) you know exactly what your reader cares about. That and you're able to strike above market deals with brands. No doubt Derek gets paid more than most for a mattress sale. (8/9)

Strategic Tooltips

Derek uses tooltips a lot in his content to to help a user who wants more context on his grading criteria. If they don't understand how Derek graded "edge support" they can get a quick answer. No doubt this helps users trust the content (5/9).
